Well, I pretty much NEVER post on here anymore. Life has been a bit "full" the last couple years. But with that being said, I figured that you guys might appreciate the current status of my mk3. At the same token, I'm sure there will be people who hate on it. To each their own.

The whole process took about 3-4 weeks of actual work. It's still in the "shake down phase". When I'm confident that everything is sound then I'll put all the engine covers on and clean the rest of the mess up under the hood.

Here's what's done:
100% stock 1UZ-FE from the junkyard $350
Borg warner S366 (kind of annoying that this turbo is becoming the flavor of the month)
Running on E85
R154
Haltech EMS
8 x 875cc Injectors
Totally stock ignition system with all new components
3" I/C pipes to a 4" I/C core
2 Walbros feeding a -8 to the rails

Currently the car is sitting at 14psi. It feels pretty much like my 1J did at about 20psi but with a ridiculous power band. Unfortunately the clutch is letting go at anything above that. The clutch is rated at 600ftlbs...but you know how that goes.As far as final boost is concerned, I'm aiming for 20-25psi when it's all said and done. I don't see that being a problem at all with E85, 10:1 compression and and exceptional tuner ;-) The ONLY weakness in this engine is the composite headgaskets. If they become an issue then I'll swap MHG's and studs on. Then my goal will move to 30+psi lol.

Heres a 3 minute video that sums up an hour of tuning. It still feels wierd with that exhaust note coming from my Supra.
Don't think I'll ever get used to that.

And just one more for the real mk3 lovers out there lol.

Can you detail specific application things like what type of headers if any, motor mounts, throttle cables. Were you able to keep ac?

Everything you mentioned with the exception of the throttle cable was fabricated by yours truly.

Throttle cable, used the mk4 variant. As for A/C, you could if you really wanted to but it would take a different approach to the header design than I took.

I guess I turned this into kind of a build thread so I'll throw some more pics up for those interested.

Very impressive man. Great work on all the custom fab, it really paid off from the looks of it. One of the best 1uz swaps I've ever seen.

If you wouldn't mind doing a build thread/whole write up that would be awesome.

Honestly, there are so many little things that are required to do this swap that it would be really tough to go over it all. I just don't have the time for that. The blunt of the swap is simply fabrication though. Engine mounts, headers, exhaust, mounting turbo, oil lines, I/C pipes, wiring, etc. It's a long list. With all that aside though, the one thing that I absolutely suggest if you decide to do this swap is to get a standalone. More often than not I get people calling me with basket case cars because they can't get the factory wiring correct or the ecu is flaking out.

My buddies and I were thinking of doing a 1uz swap into our race mk1 MR2 when the turbo-converted 4agze blew up. I think this has helped us make up our minds! hehe.

Very nice work! :)

Yeah it's all stock. These engines are WAAAAAAAAYYYY overbuilt and waaaaayyyy undertuned from the factory. This is why you see stories of these engines going 400,000 miles with almost nothing but oil changes. The heritage of the 1uz is 100% race bread. The first generation 1uz was actually designed to be used in the GT500 race series but the series tanked. After the first generation of 1uz's (89-94) they realized that they didn't need to build the engine like a Le Mans setup for the measly 260hp that they were producing at the time. Internally it has hypereutectic pistons, forged crank, forged rods, 6 bolt mains (4 studs and 2 cross bolts through the block into the main cap) and an all aluminum construction. The ONLY thing I would do to this engine internally would MAYBE be pistons. The rest is right on par or dare I say...better than the 2j's. =x
