this is a stupid thread but im about to buy a 89 w/ a 1jzgte and i want the 5speed for my 7mgte please tell me this is still a r154 tranny?

Yes, JZA70's come with them and if the car is 1JZ via engine swap, the r-154 is what comes with the 1jz engine swap.

you can use a 7MGTE R154, but you need to swap bell housings, you can get a 1JZ bellhousing from driftmotion if needed...around $300 if I remember correctly..

Holy thread bump Batman! I don't think any of the antiques around the house are as old as this one... :biglaugh:

While we're here though, a word of caution, if your R154 came out of a JZA70, it's gonna have a speedometer gear for a 4.10 axle, as the nice police officer with his radar will point out to you.

in that case, you swap in an NA 4.3 LSD and you can zoom by him at legal highway speeds..

Haha, there have been times I wouldn't mind a 4.30 diff, as it's my daily driver, but at the same time I rather like that my 2nd gear goes to 75mph on my speedo (which is actually closer to ~84mph), and third will run me over 100 (speedo, ~110 actual).

shit, my 3rd tops out at around 80mph..
