It sounds like an air leak to me...Just spitballing here, but check the underside of the accordion hose. There will be a vacuum line that runs down to a valve on the power steering pump. Alot of times that valve will lose a nipple (due to age). This would cause a leak.
The 1uz has 3 generations: ( years vary by car)
1st gen - 90 to 95/96 250hp
2nd gen - 95/96 to 97 260hp
3rd gen - 98 to 00 290hp (VVTi)
As far as the jz engines, the 1jz went VVTi in the mid 90s, and iirc went single turbo with the vvti change. The 2jz went VVTi in 97ish, but kept its twin...
The stock 1jzgte makes 280hp at the crank. Stock 1uzfe makes 250-260 depending on year. The main difference is that the 1uz makes 200lb-ft of its 260lb-ft of torque at 900ish rpm.
Both engines are extremely well built. I have seen 1uz motors with over 500k on them. My SC400 has almost 300k on...
Be patient and buy an unmodded car. I just spent a few weeks with a customers car that he overpaid for because it was modded (turbonetics bolt on turbo, 3 inch exhaust, 550s, etc). I had to put an engine and harness in it, as well as clean up no less than 20 different little issues that one of...
For my money I'd grab a grey interior if its a red car. If you like the crosshatch pattern, go with 86 or 87. They changed the cloth for 88. Also they changed to a cloth headliner in 88 as well.

You typically can redo the interior for not a lot of money depending on color. What color is your interior?

The "Engine Mechanical" section will have everything from removal/install, to tear down and rebuild.
I have built several 7Ms that have managed to stay together thus far. I'm about to build another for my personal...
As far as the harness installation, wire it up before you put the motor in the car. Now putting the engine together, if you aren't confident in your abilities, best take it to a shop. If you feel like you can follow directions and have the tools necessary, you can find everything you need to...
I could be mistaken, but that looks like an auto harness. You can still use it if it is, just have to do some minor rewiring for the clutch switch etc.
I can tell you this. Back in 98 I bought an 89 Turbo. It was bone stock and it was one hell of a fun car to drive. If you aren't planning on going the major horsepower route, you can just grab a Fel-Pro head gasket and clamp it down using ARP head bolts, or studs of you want to go that route. I...
Well if you are tight on space you may be able to go 3-4 feet back to clear the car then roll the car back out of the way. I wouldn't recommend sideways rotation unless you have several people that will stabilize the lift
