That's pretty much what speed density is. There are two sensors used in that setup, IAT and MAP. The IAT is installed in the intake piping and the MAP sensors is fed with a vacuum line.
You should be able to switch to a Lexus or MKIII GTE's AFM (I'm not positive, but I don't see why not) although there are better flowing options with the MAFT Pro.
I still haven't had the time or money to dyno my car and see where it's at. There's definitely a difference.
ROFL! With the assistance of a certain MKIII I've learned many lessons very quickly! :biglaugh:
EDIT: Don't sweat it Rick, with 6 of them you'll be a pro in no time! There should be very little waiting between lessons! I've heard that if you own more than one the cars start competing like...
There's a lot of info on here regarding speed density.
As for the differences: Going with a MAF is a bit easier to setup and still a lot less restrictive than the stock system. A speed/density setup does take some tweaking but eliminates any restriction caused by flow sensors which sit in the...
Depends, you want to go with a disgustingly large MAF or go MAP? Both are comparable. The MAFT Pro is $399. The sensors you can either buy new or go hunting at a salvage yard. Going with either MAF or MAP is around $100 if you buy new parts... j/y parts will be cheaper, of course. You can get...
So technically speaking wouldn't this be more of an encyclopedia than a dictionary? Perhaps we should use the subdomain reference.supramania.com? Just a thought.
Another thing that could be done right away is collecting and reformatting writeups for a non-stock section.
^^^yup, not to mention it'll give you a few things you can use right away for more than just fuel. Such as timing control and a less restrictive metering system.
Personally, if I were going to invest in a piggyback and was planning on possibly going N/A-T I'd look into something which offered more than just fuel control... oh, wait. :evil2:
As robbo185 said, any gains from tuning alone will be minimal.
Instead of emailing everything might it not be easier to get an FTP dropbox setup? That way contributors can just put everything into a folder (pics, text document, etc) and upload the whole folder to the FTP server. There'll be a lot less hassle than dealing with tons of email and possibly...
Yeah, I'd add a boost controller to the mix. The stock 7M-GTE 440's have been shown to be pretty reliable up into the lower teens. I would try to keep the boost around your target of 6-8psi and keep an eye on the WB to see how the injectors are faring.
Didn't you have to modify the solstice housing to use the MKIII shifter? In that case I don't see how the Solstice shifter would fit a MKIII tranny.
I really don't see how this is that different from using the IS300 (I think that was the model) B&M short shifter... except that that shifter...
Ack, running a fan with a missing blade! <gasp> I suppose it could contribute to the car feeling rough, especially when the oscillations are at a lower frequency and the engine's trying to run with as little power as possible. I'm not 100% sure though, it's not something I've ever (or would...
How bad depends on the extent of the problem.
There are a hundred things that can cause irregularities in the idle.
Just get a multimeter and test the TPS first. Test the calibration too, it may simply need a little tweaking with a feeler and multimeter to bring it back to spec. You might find...
<sarcasm>Oh, just say "the hell with it"! No one who works on these cars makes sure they're completely sound and without problems before they start trying to make big power.</sarcasm>
Seriously though, just go pickup a cheap multimeter at Home Depot or Radio Shack, even a $10 MM is better...
It's odd that both are speed related... I suppose it's possible that the ECU is pulling timing and adding fuel when the temp starts going nuts.
I'd still start with looking into the cause of the temp gauge behavior. If the temp is bouncing around and it's not just a fault with the temp gauge or...
