Actually, the fuel pump on a 7M-GE shouldn't start running when the key is in the "on" position without air moving through the AFM. The FC switch is open until air moves the vane and thus the switch. Look over your wiring for modifications and shorts.

I hate the 4.3 on the highway on long trips and first gear is useless with a turbo pushing anything more than stock.... just my opinion. You could also try going with the 3.9 for something in the middle; that's what I plan on swapping in.

As in WET oil? If so you may have found the problem (or one of them). Oil can leak from the valve covers into the plug galley causing misfires as it soaks the plugs/wires.

Yep, a lot of them are complete crap, thin, and a VERY poor fit. I'm quite happy with mine from the aforementioned vendor though... DrJonez is who recommended them to me.
