All turbo motors used 440 low impedance injectors.
Non turbo cars came with 305 low impedance (like my car) or 315 high impedence injectors on 89+ cars.
So unless you're using a non-turbo 89+ ecu you'll have to follow figgie's instructions and delete the resistor box in order to get them to...
Basically, you'll end up with a complicated 1J.
The typical 1.5JZ uses the the head and wiring of a 1J and the extra cc's of the 2J block. All the wiring and everything plugs right in making it a simple plug and play ordeal.
If you're not afraid of a bit of wiring and possibly some fabrication...
With your limited budget I would stick with the 7M.
Get yourself a complete 7MGTE for around $1000, all the upgrades I mentioned above will be just under $1000 and your transmission swap (with a new clutch) will be yet another $1000. If you have anything leftover change the head gasket and do...

It's really going to come down to a personal preference. Each motor has its pros and cons.
If you go with the 7M I would try and pick a turbo block (preferably from an 87-88 for simplicity). It benefits from having oil squirters that help keep the pistons cool.
Being a half litre bigger the...
But you never know. I find the dip stick in my car comes loose all the time.
I've done a compression test and found everything was good @ 140-160 (this was on a cold engine, it would probably be closer together if it was tested when at temperature).
It seems odd that it would shoot the dipstick tube out.
I'd do a compression check before firing it up again. There is a chance you're getting blow by and pressurizing the crankcase.
Check in the spare tire well for water/rust. Also, bring a weak fridge magnet and run it over the fenders. If it sticks you're good, if it doesn't there is bondo so RUN AWAY!!
