The nose is just for spinning from belt to screw(internals). The only thing to be worried about would be if the sc is to small and choking the motor.

That because you had a weak spot in the electrical system and at a major spot. My car used to randomly not start with no power and tight terminals. Replaced them with new toyota ones and ive never had a problem and my problem was with the positive terminal.

Why not machine the pp if your able to? Could even machine the back step on the flywheel to make up for the amount taken off.
Dont really have to replace every time but its proper to have a machined flat surface.
