It turns by a gear on the exhaust cam just like the CPS on GTE's. Anyways that turns shaft which turns the rotor which strikes the caps which send spark to the plugs...I think.

Do you know whether the previous owner used synthetic oil or not in the transmission? If not Id go with a non-synthetic and be sure to run the right weight.
