Justin: If they're being lazy and doing their setup with the block sitting on the pan rails I can see it being an issue.
It "should" be set on the main tunnels for an accurate job.
LMAO Grim!
I bet Porter Gump will do it his way no matter what's written!
I think he thinks I'm telling him bullshit for some bizarre reason!
If nothing else it's entertaining reading his "insights" into the inner workings of the 7M! ;)
as you change directions you have to apply uneven pressure to it Justin!
I'm not trying to rain on your parade here but if it were me I'd take it to another shop tell them it has to be as smooth as possible make sure they understand this 100% and have it and the cover cut at the same time...
Brent: Lapping should only be taking the highs off and not changing the height at all, in Justin's case he's trying to remove material to get rid of pitts and I bet while it's smooth it's not flat anymore :(
Justin: You do realise now you've built in a BHG at the timing case as it will be higher than the block! :(
Lapping is just for surface smoothness NOT to remove pitting that's what the cutters at the machine shop are for.
cass: Keep in mind the CPS will move as you insert it due to the helical gear.
You may need to push it in slightly until it just engages then pull it back a touch turn the shaft back 1 tooth then push it in.
