Finally found some current production german castrol at one autozone in my area... Next oil change it's going in. The pennzoil platinum has been holding up great as well. Get great oil pressure that hasn't dropped off from heat, it's also staying fairly clear at least on the dipstick...

sounds like it's simply idling too low for some reason... timing, ect... also remember that a tube header will have a LOT more noise than a cast manifold... it may be an exhaust leak that finally sealed as well...
