This is actualy really funny - because helium at 30-40 psi actually weighs more than compressed air. Helium is only lighter than air at regular atmospheric pressure.

Take it back, for sure. I'd suggest just getting one from MDC, but you could browbeat the parts shop into getting you the proper three wire sensor if you wish. The one wire will absolutely not work properly.

This does not sound good. The radiator was likely not hot because there was no coolant left in it. When it cools down, open the rad and fill it up - check how much liquid this takes.

Well, my personal method involved sending a few bucks to DrJonez - his is fantastic. You can certainly fab one yourself, they are pretty easy, but his is SHINY. And it works damn well too. And it's SHINY. :D
