When my HID's worked (long story) the high beam indicator on the dash didn't work, but the lights worked fine.

Hot tanking is done with acid that will eat the bearings, that's why they need to be replaced and then sized (royal PITA). Can be cleaned with a sonic cleaner and it won't eat the bearings IIRC...

Stock gauge IS accurate, it just doesn't have as many lines to tell exactly what the pressure is and it's dampened so it doesn't react as fast...
