I think it's just that your inside when the car is dynoing. I've had my car at 7k plenty of times and it doesn't sound hairy at all. but when I put it on the dyno, it's just so much more loud and in your face with the walls and the hood being up and everything.
It sounds a little more violent...
Ok, first of all... If you think your mechanic is a fuck tard, why do you have your car there in his care?
2nd, maybe the GTE you have has the wrong motor mounts on it. You haven't told us anything else about the situation so that's just my guess based on what you've told us.

Ya, I was aware of the workings of the synchros. I studied my howstuffworks auto section a long time ago. lol
Although, I wasn't aware just exactly what the addictives do to help the mechanics of the tranny internals.
