They are specifically claiming that the pressure plate has a (now) 20% increase in clamping force. Specifically clamping force. Torque capacity is something entirely different.
(I'm also sure that it used to say 40% increase.)
Just took another look at a gripforce "f1" clutch for the Supra.
Sure looks like exactly what they sold me, but there are some differences in the ad, now.
I could swear that it boasted a 40% increase in clamping power before. It now says 20%.
There's also a lot of info there on how...
If you disconnect the accordian hose, you need to make sure that you have a few other things in place.
Something to replace the AFM. Probably something like a MAF-T to use manifold pressure to tell the ECU how much air is going through. Once you do that, that takes care of most of it...
A guess: The '90 instruments look different from the '87. Arguably nicer.
In which case...
Leave your instrument cluster alone. Swap over just the cosmetic gauge faces instead.
The NA tach instrument itself works fine, but you need the driver board from a turbo. You can connect the driver board from your existing instrument cluster to the tach, and it'll work just fine. (I'm using the actual tach instrument from my '89NA with the '87T driver board, and it's fine.)
The 4 speakers in the rear run off of 2 channels. Leave 'em alone. I found that my system sounded better when I just disconnected the rears anyway, so I pulled my upgraded speakers out, and am just running the front stage.
If you dynamat the doors like that, that will do an adequate job of...
I have a pair of those '91 speaker pods, and they are definitely not sealed. They are open at the back, trying to use the door itself as an enclosure. Of course the door isn't anthing close to sealed, so there's a LOT of bass that just goes missing that way.
Get a proper enclosure for the...
You've got the 6.5" up front, that's a start. It's NEVER going to be great for bass. The stock head unit simply doesn't have enough power. It's like trying to run a 10 second quarter mile and leaving your engine stock. You simply can't do it.
Bass takes power. Simple as that.
That...
I used to react like that... Now I'm older and (I think) wiser.
I will slow down, but I won't do anything to deliberately provoke the person behind me. I won't flash the brakes, or do anything of that nature. I've seen that make the situation more dangerous more often than I've ever seen...
That's basically just a guide as to the forward voltage and curent draw that's optimal for the devices. Since the stockers are already there, then you shouldn't have a problem with just putting in replacements.
Okay, I'll probably just replace the plastic with something else then, and hold...
CygnusX1 has an on-line TSRM. It's for a 1990 model, but it works.
Actually, I've found that 9 times out of 10, in the Supra, it's the passenger side switch that's at fault.
The wiring is done so that it requires that neutral contact (or agreeing contact) must happen in both switches so...
Okay, I'm going to do this. Anyone know what the size of the 7 segment displays are for the temp? I figure that it's gotta be pretty standard, most electronic parts are. Maybe I'll take a flyer and guess. Worst case is that I'll guess wrong, and have some 7 segment displays to play with.
Hey Jeff:
Some dealers (Obviously not yours) had a "turbo appearance package" for the NA Supras. (Biggest waste that I've ever heard of) They'd bolt on the spoiler and put the turbo badging on NA cars. I only know this because I ran across someone who had it dealer installed.
Most...
Okay, but don't say we didn't warn you. ;) Where the harnesses connect there will be a lot of work to do. I suggest that you build adapter harnesses by taking the plugs and some wire off of your '91NA engine harness and the donor '88T chassis harness to connect 'em up.
A pull-type BOV should never leak under boost.
Get a bike tire pump, and old bike inner tube and a pop bottle, and a length of disposable vacuum hose. Some duct tape could also be good.
Cut the tube so that there is the part with the valve, and about 3-6" on either side.
Put one end of...
Well, you may be able to "translate" the wiring harness from the '88T donor, but there are issues.
I swapped an '87T engine into my '89NA. Both cars were 5 speeds, both cars had ABS.
My '89NA (recipient) is an early model '89, so MOST things just plugged in. There were a couple of...
Well, a 1JZ is definitely an option.
One thing that I didn't mention, but is worth considering. I've heard people report that the 7M auto ECU doesn't react as well when shifting a manual. Probably because the 5 speed ECU 'knows' that when the throttle snaps back to idle from WOT, it's...
