Too much invested to go 1j, not to mention that that I could have everything I want done a lot sooner. When I yank the motor, I'm going to go over everything with a fine tooth comb & get rid of all the bugs.
Yes, I can't afford not to. :biglaugh: All I'll have to do to make my goal of 400rwhp is get a 57trim, fuel pump & maybe injectors. By going 1j, I'd have to start all over again.
to put in a fresh short block. I plan on taking everything out of the engine bay & painting it again. What else would you do if you had your motor out. I want to get it all done & not look back & regret missing something.
I had mine rebuilt about a year ago. I supplied the seals, they did a 3 angle valve job, light port work, machined it for a MHG, completely reassembled it & set the valve clearances for $275. The same shop is doing the machine work on my block now.
Assuming that you're talking about the rear seal: pull the tranny, remove the seal (or you can remove the seal carrier first), put a light film of oil on the new seal & lightly tap it into place using a block of wood to distribute the pressure from the hammer.
I don't know of a way to plan a rebuild without tearing the motor apart first. You could have a multitude of problems, but you won't know until you crack the motor open.
install a shortblock that has forged internals, do a 5-speed swap, paint & detail the engine compartment, FMIC & re-work hardpipes & put in a new T4. You know, just small stuff. :biglaugh:
