Jesus that's scary. My motor has had 3 BHG's, and all of them were done with a full engine rebuild except the last one @ 250k miles. :( I gotta try to save for/buy a motor to mildly build while I wait for the current one to crap out.

I had a bad output shaft bearing on my w58. It mad a loud whining sound in any gear but 4th. It doesn't really sound like you have the same problem, but any transmission stuff is hard to diagnose without having it torn down and looked at by a pro. :(
