God, that is a huge fear of mine. I really want to get collector's style "as stated" insurance so I'm completely covered. With all the work I've put into mine I'd hate for them to look at it as a 330k mile 1990 coupe and give me book value. I'd buy it back of course, but it'd be such a pain in...
I've flipped 2 mk3's and made little on either one. To repair a BHG properly and replace all the necessary components after sitting for 4 years, your margin will be slim to nil. Pass on it.
Bothering with any kind of conversion is pointless. They send very different signals and require different ecus. Just wait till you do the conversion on the motor and it'll be stupid easy.
If you have a need to do anything now, do chassis stuff that will actually carry over.

If you're planning on an eventual Turbo, the na stuff will be a waste of time and money.
I've driven quite possibly the nicest, fastest street na I've even heard of and a simple stock turbo in good shape is much faster.
Having owned and driven many a mk3, save your pennies for the swap. :)...
I struck a good deal, so the price in the poll isn't real accurate. My pricing put it at just more than a new bearing and u joints. The choice was easy then. :)
Plus, I'll never worry about the rear section twist and I'll remove a few lbs of rotating mass.

There are Kevlar and other clutch materials available in a full face design that will handle plenty of abuse in a ge. It makes no sense to get a puck clutch for a low power car like the na.
Its not cool to chirp around parking lots and have to Adapt to minimize embarrassing engagement when...
Do not get a 4 or 6 puck. That's a horrible choice for an na that's not raced. Get a full face clutch from act, competition clutch, etc. Or even just a generic aftermarket would be fine.

Lots of good discussion here. Keep it going!
When you slow down you sure do get the energy back... in the form of heat on your brakes. Is there another benefit to drivetrain inertia post-flywheel that I'm missing? I thought you'd want that to be as small as possible. Flywheel weight can help...
Err... horsepower yes. I know youre a smart guy, so I'm confused by your comment. Lowering the rotating inertia results in less energy required to increase rotational speed. Drive train loss is real and can certainly be lowered by reducing the rotating mass/inertia. I would assume just the...
He also broke it after a clutch dump on a regularly raced and abused car. Not exactly a similar situation to me. I don't plan in a single clutch dump in this car.
Also, notice how most all responses were "wow I've never seen that!"
Nevertheless an example of a failed carbon OEM unit, so I tip...
I've read about this fragile carbon fiber driveshaft syndrome but I've seen almost 0 cars with actual street driven failures. I'm also reading that the 350 z comes from the factory with the carbon fiber driveshaft. And I haven't seen anybody with problems with that.

Talked with Frank at DSS. He's fan of the one-piece units, but certainly not opposed to making a 2-piece aluminum. I will update pictures he sent of a recent two piece soon.
He mentioned the two-piece with the CV joint and center bearing will still exhibit the "hanger lag" as he termed it where...
Regarding the idea of replacing just the bearing: I know my power levels will be low but I'd like to lighten the shaft and eliminate the possibility of any future slip.
At this point I'm settled on a 2 piece. I've spent enough time thinking about it as being around 1000 dollars and I've come to...
Damn IJ, that thing spun him around in an instant. If that happens one a two lane highway that could easily be deadly
I dont even know what you're trying to say here...
I should talk to DSS today if we can catch each other. Here's to hoping a basic two piece in aluminum isn't more expensive...
My 134 retrofit with the stock yota condenser is still uncomfortably cold after a few minutes. I was worried after hearing everyone talk 134 down, but my experience has proven quite the contrary.
I'm loving the freezing cold! 134! :)
