opened everything up again and ran the car with a stethoscope. Couldn't hear anything besides what seemed like fluid moving around and a constant tick noise throughout the entire engine/trans setup. I also think i have a very slight case of rod knock towards my #1/2 cylinders.
One thing i did...
^thanks for the tip but all of them appear normal. BY the arms i guess you mean the thick metal strips attached with pins around the outside of the PP plate. I have a picture of one on the first page in the original post.
instead of dropping the whole tranny, is there even viewing area if I just unbolt and move around the pressure plate as needed to check parts? Maybe not the bearing but releasing tension on the PP may allow me to check if there is a broken ring possibly. I just can't remember how much room you...
argh, looks like ill be stuck in Charleston, WV a lot longer than i hoped. Good thing the GF's family is nice and will help out if i really need it.
If it is a ring, will it progressively get worse or once its broken its broken kind of deal?
edit: riddle me this IJ. Why would these problems...
^this 'grumble' noise. Is it constant like grinding? or is it like a tap/on and off noise?
As for tapping the PP on the ground. Does it only make the noise without the tension, ie out of the car/uninstalled?
found this for future reference about a pivot ring. I'm on a MAC so i don't know how to crop it lol. Very good book on google by the way, at least what i browsed through and saw. The whole book is online just a limited view of images is all.
IJ, where would this fail typically?
As far as the...
I guess maybe the disk could be busted up with a loose piece rattling around i don't know.
Usually tyler (gaboonviper) and I can figure out just about any problem but this is pretty much pushing me to a dead end everytime. I'm NOT at home which makes this very difficult.
*calling SM experts*...
NEW: it appears on my 200 mile journey back to school last night (about 2/5 of the way home) I lost First gear in the process. My guess would have to be large metal particles getting caught in the existing gears causing the loud noises and violent vibrations. It also explains my inabililty to...
Definately. Shoot me some pictures. However rust worries me. If there is rust on the fendors then there probably is on the rear quarters too which is some major work.
New noise: Seems in first and in cold i've developed a whining noise. This noise is very similar to that if you used power steering fluid instead of ATF fluid. I thought it was the PS yesterday since it was low however i noticed it was just first gear. The sound is also similar to the same whine...
i mean unles someone can suggest checking something else, i'm not sure what else i can do. Honestly its 98% highway anyway which involves almost no shifting. I never have to change gears on the highway unless i'm getting on and off.
