The only reason why Ian took down some threads was due to broken links.

I miss Ian too, and even I as a mod - am in the dark on why he left or felt compelled to leave. What hurts me is that not only he left a community that he "loved", he took threads down that hurt the community more than any thing. I still don't understand and don't agree with the method.
