I must now correct myself, I should have said outside of Japan. In Japan the V161 was used as well. Jeff

    2jzGE head VS 2jzGTE head

It really would be much easier to find a good used 2JZ-GTE head to use instead of trying to modify the 2JZ-GE head to run GTE electronics, IMO of course. Getting the head modified for the cam position sensors and getting the proper air gap while still sealing for oil, and then plugging the dizzy...

No they didn't. They just didn't offer a manual transmission at all. The 2JZ-GTE never had anything but the V160 for manual transmissions. Jeff

    Water pump pullies

I believe that is from the newer 2JZ-GE, like the IS300. The pulleys between the GE and GTE on earlier models were the same, as was the GS300, SC300, etc. Not sure exactly when they changed, as I haven't checked yet, but an earlier 2JZ-GE pulley should definitely work for you. Jeff

    A/C Issues....

There's probably a leak, and it caused the refrigerant to leak out, probably. Not 100% though. Jeff

    Crank plugs

Toyota does not sell these separately for any crankshaft as far as I know. Jeff

ES = Camry drivetrain, they never had an inline-6, nevermind a 2JZ. Had to be some other type of Lexus. Jeff

Ignition Ring light never turns off?! huh?!

No there isn't. It is tied in to the dome light circuit. It is supposed to turn off when the dome light turns off, after having closed the door. It is not supposed to be on while the car is running. Was your dome light staying on also (should be in the "door" position to check). If not...

    Cam Caps WTF....

What? 1/4 is smaller than 3/8. Most automotive torque wrenches I've seen are either 3/8 or 1/2, but there are definitely some 1/4 ones as well, for lower torque specs. Jeff

    lowering engine Temp, coolant question.

Toyota "Red" = Toyota Long Life Coolant (not Premixed) Toyota "Pink" = Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (Premix 50/50 for USA, 55/45 for Canada) I haven't been able to find exact information on the exact chemical differences between the two, Toyota recommends very different change intervals on...

    Make doors more solid?

New door hinges, new door check, new glass runs, make sure none of the rods are loose/able to rattle, new weatherstripping. Once you replace all of these things and make sure nothing can rattle in there by replacing the foam pieces, etc, then your doors should sound pretty good when they close...

    Anyone playing NFS: Shift?

I want to buy it because it has the AE86 in it, but I am also worried because it is a racing game that has the AE86 in it. Although... GT always had the AE86 in it, so that might not be a bad thing ;). Jeff

Yeah, sounds like it's new head time. Jeff

OMG! Shaking CPS wires works! lol

The JZ cam and crank position sensors fail as well, and the cam ones leak too, so I don't think the JZ setup is that much better, though I do think it is more accurate. Jeff

    1jz vaccum line / 2jz water pump on 1jz

As for the water pump, that port on the bottom is simply a weep port, Toyota had a drainage hose coming off of it going down to avoid it hitting anything (alternator), but it is not really required. No need to plug it. Jeff
