I was just given a Supra...now what? Now with pics!

This is odd. Just did a compression test. I'm still considering changing the headgasket, and wanted to make sure the engine is healthy if I chose to do so. Here's the numbers: 205 205 230 205 225 235 So...is 205 "low"? Should I look for it to come even higher with oil?

Lol... Just went outside to show a friend the gift supra. He noted the coolant dripping out of the overflow. We checked inside...exxon valdez oil slick in there. This is ... what... my 4th Supra BHG? Now it's just funnay. We can now rule out a couple options on the poll. I vowed to...

I like the way you think. Thanks for the input all. I'm still mulling it over. It'll probably depend on how much oil it takes next time I fill it up!

Sorry, kasonw, this was gift from a friend. I wouldn't feel right about selling it. I think I'll just drive it until it breaks - which might be pretty soon. It was 2 quarts low on oil :aigo:

This just in: The 7M-GE is a turd. Sorry to all the n/a guys out there, but this engine sucks. Is there any point to revving beyond 4K? Rocks to drive with the targa off again, though. Why isn't this standard on all cars?

Negative on the 7m-gte swap. I'm spending a lot of time and money to go away from the 7m-gte on my other supra. Why spend a lot of time and energy to have a worse car with the same engine?

Yeah, I know. The digicam is dead.

I was just given a Supra...now what? Now with pics!

I was just given a 1990 Supra non-turbo, targa, with the white package. It has 205,000 miles. The body's straight, it runs good, but it's getting a bit rough around the edges. The question is, now what? I already have a project Supra. My driver is a 2005 Saab 9-2x, running 20+ psi.

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

Nope, they're all the same sump. The Isuzus and Saabs are just rebadged trailblazers. Roughly, I'd say the TB engine is about 3" longer and 2" taller, if you ignore the oil pan.

Thanks, maybe you'll come around on the motor too.

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

I'm using a bellhousing from a Hummer H3. It bolts the 4200 to any of Aisin's AR5 or R series transmissions. Prior to this swap, I had replaced the R154 from the Supra with an AR5 from a Pontiac Solstice. So now, the entire drivetrain will be MY2006 "GM". It took a little grinding on the...

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

With the exact engine placement locked down, I had to rework my pickup tube. With the stock sump depth, my pickup would be the lowest point on the car by almost two inches. Not a good thing to high-center on. I took about 2 inches out of the tube and re-brazed it:

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

The engine was sitting a bit crooked because I tried to bend my driver side mount instead of just welding it. I re-did it and now the engine is sitting nice and straight. I propped up the rear and took the cherry picker off. This is how it's going to sit.

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

Now I can lower the engine on to the mounts! Hmm, it's sitting a little crooked. My driver side mount came out a little taller than I intended. Next step rework that and try to fit the bellhousing...

Is the whole assembly from the Corolla, or just the sensor?

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

Yeah, it may take some work to get the suspension sorted after this. For some reason, the stock engine-side mounts are asymmetrical, so the frame side mounts need to be oppositely asymmetrical for the engine to be square to the chassis. Weird.

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

The Trailblazer engine is tall. With a stock crossmember, it would probably poke through the hood a couple inches. So I made these: They're combination crossmember spacers and engine mounts. This way I don't have to weld on the Supra chassis. The mounts are made from 1.5"...

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

I'm using the stock trailblazer PCM and sensors. I'll either use the entire Trailblazer pedal or graft the sensor onto the Supra pedal.

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

I was going to have the local welder weld me up an oil pan - by splicing an I5 pan with the I6 pan. He quoted me $700, so I decided to take a break from the pan and work on engine mounts. Also, I picked up a core engine so that I could work on fabrication without fear of damaging the 06...

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

Yep. I'm using the AR5, but I've already proven that the AR5 is interchangable with the R154 in terms of mating up to the 7m. You probably wouldn't be able to use the older R150/R151 without some modifications. I'll use all GM parts, but if using the R154, you'd just sub in a toyota clutch...
