What particular sound are you looking for? There are several things that will cause engine knock, besides spun bearings. As mentioned, the wrist pin, cam journal, scored piston, broken valvetrain, oil pump, etc. Even a water pump that is bad can knock and resonate through the motor.

I would look for a loose ground or bad connection with your intermitent problem. An igniter going bad has your symptoms also. Engine heat will slowly kill it.

An increase in boost pressure has nothing to do with power steering fluid loss. Perhaps you have a PCV restriction, and it is engine oil. There are many places powersteering fluid can leak from. Clean it up really good, and recheck.

Do you have the recirculate on? That will make it fog up. Perhaps the door is stuck, and you only have inside air. Recirc is the same as max a/c on a domestic. It makes the a/c cool quicker.

You can test the relays before replacing them. There is also the control side of the relay.

The fuel pump relay or circuit opening relay could be causing trouble. Ive seen it on many Toyotas. The customer ignored it until the car wouldnt run at all. Or a loose ground wire, seen that too.

Well, I am a big fan of clean stock cars, but those polished valve covers are just ass kicking. I love them. Was that a self job? Same with the manifold. Looks painted? Did you consider an FMU from Vortech or Cartech? It also requires tuning, but you will definetly richen the mixture under boost.
