Front facing manifold does mean more CFM, it only means shorter intercooler piping. You need a larger plenum and shorter runners to increase CFM. And that will decrease intake velocity and low end grunt.

What Grim said. Because they are not interchangable. You need to have those items with the GM sensor. We do not have a MAF sensor, it is a volume sensor that sends a different signal. So if you change the housing only, just make sure the KV device fits perfectly.
The programing of the shift schedule is differnent because they GE and GTE have a different final drive ratio. This is done to prevent overspeed of the trans.
