You didn't rebuild an engine if you did not replace the pistons and overbore. That is the basis of a rebuild. If you hone and rering, then that is a hone and rering. If you replace bearings, then you replaced bearings. It isn't a rebuild.

What did you check? 34 is when fuel is halted from too high of an airflow signal. All that smoke is becaue the ECU is injecting fuel, but the air is escaping before it enters the cylinder.
Maybe the bypass valve is leaking to the atmosphere. That could be your intake leak.
That is your 34. You are putting more fuel into the intake than what should be. The airflow meter measures how much, and the air escapes somehow. I highly doubt that you don't have an intake leak.
The coolant lines are on naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines. Think about it.
The intercooler is there to reduce engine knock from too high of temperatures in the intake. If the coolant lines were a problem, the coolant lines would not be there.
