A 1J at 'first' glance wouldn't look to be anything suspicious.
Then if you've got a visual inspection and there's lack of an EGR? Boned if you need it.
edit: Just found a thread that says low NOx levels were needed, not the EGR. Though the EGR would assist with the NOx levels a good deal...
What in the jihad??? What in earth brought you to think all those pc speakers would be so much better than just spending the money on a good car audio head unit. What do the girls say when you ride by blasting the windows startup sound?
QTFW!
+1 on the financial planner.
Get your money invested & squared away. Hell, even start up something to get the kids through grad school. At some point you'd have enough money towards the end when you're retired for a few drinks on some piece of land that isn't underwater. :icon_razz
A stock n/a is fun to drive around. Hell, I had mine for over 24 hours before I picked up a turbo supra for my ongoing projects.
I sure had a fun 50 some miles after I bought that n/a. :biglaugh:
Money? Save it up until "it's turbo time."
I noticed that was your first post, so welcome to SM.
This here is a thread that discusses the pros/cons of a EGR removal and some good bits of info from the experts:

I removed the EGR on my car, but...
Ahh geez. There was actually a thread a while back that touched up on this topic of the pre-89 and post-89 differences in the mk3. I could've sworn I bookmarked it for reference later when I was working with my mk3s.
Off the top of my head I've got:
1) The ecu/harnesses.
2) The a/c...
I'm doing it. I'd have to say it's more of a hassle since I didn't do my homework until I was staring at 2 different engines: 1 of them an 88, and the other a 90. Just think of an 88 being fully transplanted into a 90.
If I could go back and change paths, I would've picked up a 89+ car for...
i had eibachs and stock shocks on my 91 and it worked pretty well. a lil bouncy but it made the car look so much better and help out with the cornering.
beniefit is 10 blade has more cooling power and vise versa with the 7 blade. it depends mainly on where you live and the weather to know wether its worth the swap to a 10 blade . i live in san diego and the wether is fairly almost the same year round but, im switching to a ten blade for good...
it might be the brake pistons. they might be worn out. do this, remove the pads and the brakepiston from the axle. have someone step on the brakes while you watch the pistons. if the piston doest seem to respond to the brake presure that might be your problem. GL with your brakes.
Edit; what...
i worked for nasco ship builders and made 15 and hour in apprenticeship for pipe fitting. if i stayed i would have been making 45/hour on a 12 hour shift.

water could have shorted the starter solinoid. maybe got some water in the clutch and made its sound wierd. just thinking if the water happened to have gotten anywhere around there.
my 91 mods were; cat-less full 3 inch cat back, blitz intake. i was stickin it close to mustags. all i was missing was a kik in the boost from stock to about 13 and i would've won almost everytime.
