What the hell is this crazy thing!?

What codes were you seeing? If you have a later Cali car you might get codes associated with egr temp sensor operation (I'd have to check my books) but you'll never get codes from a disconnected VSV directly. Where do I get this information? Not only is it common electrical sense but in addition...

    Why Fuel Cut!

Do you have any idea why that screw is there? What it's design function is? Or that it might be sealed for a reason? It's not there for what you want to use it for and if you mess with it you'd better be prepared to accept the consequences of what it really does.

    charcoal canister

Indeed. It gains you nothing but space. I also find it ironic the younger generation is usually quick to shit on the environment, as they're the ones who're gonna have to live with it.

What the hell is this crazy thing!?

Lol, good grief. What justin said. The egr and FPU VSV's are ecu outputs and aren't monitored. That's not to say certain effects of them aren't monitored (they are) but you won't get any codes if you remove the VSVs. On cars with an egr temp sensor it could be a different story.

Is there a way to change rev limiter?

Ok, I've reviewed the factory TCCS manuals as well as the aftermarket documentation I have. All cuts, be they rev limiters, excess airflow, rpm cuts, ect, are injection cuts. Ignition is not involved. I hadn't reviewed this material in years (as it delves much deeper into TCCS operation than is...

    finally got a tig

I have a Thermal Arc 300GTSW square wave inverter. 30 pounds, fully programable, pulser, sloper, adjustable frequency, wave balance, automatic pre and post flow, you name it. A wonderful machine. It's for sale if anyone is interested. Not gonna be cheap though. I'm not a fan of auto darkening...

    Power Antenna Removal?

Curious....why was the antenna up if you were parked? And if he broke it why not just replace the mast? No need to replace the entire unit.

    Spark Plug gap...

We're talking 3 thou here. About the size of a CH. I'm sure Porter is more then capable of working to better than that ;)

    Spark Plug gap...

Yeah, looks close. I'm not a big fan of those types of gap checkers (prefer the wire type) but that should work. Remember, the ignition system will use whatever voltage is needed to overcome the gap and once the mixture is ignited the voltage across the plug will never be more than 4-5kv anyway.

    Thermostat housing cover sensors/switches

Gracias Amigo, for taking the time to hunt all that down for me. Your manual must be like mine. I bought both the same day I bought the car and have since probably spent as much time studying as driving the car. It's dog eared for sure ;) I can certainly see why you think what you do because...

What happens when TEMS goes bad?

Sounds like a good place to get a head lapper ;)

    Spark Plug gap...

It'd be 28 thou in inches. Take one inch and divide it into 1000 equal parts. 28 of those parts is .028 or 28 thousandths of an inch...28 "thou". No wonder your oil pump...nah, never mind ;)

What happens when TEMS goes bad?

Thanks Justin. I feel the same way. There'll come a time (probably soon) when I'll need replacements and I'd also like to keep the stock setup. Just because I perceive it's not doing much doesn't mean it isn't. I know it's working though, at least the actuators are.

Lol, then take it from me: Learn to verify even when you trust yourself ;)

Is there a way to change rev limiter?

You're right Grim, made me look up the data sheet. 4K it is. And the 8751 has eprom, the 8051 has rom. Unfortunately I've completely screwed the pooch on this one and everything I wrote was wrong. I just opened up my original ecu (I run the spare) and it doesn't have any member of the MCS 51...

What happens when TEMS goes bad?

Yes, I meant that. Buying a new car, at anytime, is a dumb thing to do from a financial standpoint. Buying one when young was even dumber. Consumer debt (I paid cash for the car btw) is one of the biggest killers of wealth accumulation. Had I half a brain at that time I would've put the money...

Is there a way to change rev limiter?

Hey Grim, you know the old saying: "If it was easy, they wouldn't call it code". Supracentral: The 8051 has limited on board eprom (2k I think but don't quote me) and I recall there is more in the form of separate prom in the stock ecu. Been a long time zince I've been inside one though. It's...

What happens when TEMS goes bad?

Only if I'm forced to. Unlike most I don't keep this car because I "love" it, I keep it because it puts money back into my pocket every single day. Buying it new when I was in my 20's was one of the dumbest financial decisons I ever made. I've learned some things about handling money since then ;)

Is there a way to change rev limiter?

Yeah Grim, I bet the last thing you're looking at is the tach ;) 3p's explanation does make sense. His looking at how the test is "rigged" and combining it with what he knows of the ecu shows good critical thinking skills. I usually think along the same lines but since I can't remember the last...
