    A340E Buildup Information Thread

Yep...ferrous material from the clutch packs. The problem is the magnets don't attract non-ferrous particles and the screen is not fine enough to catch them. For this exact reason, I run a filter on the output line to the cooler...a Trasko by-pass filter, but any quality full flow filter will...

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Short answer...yes ;) Like I said, below 176 deg F the ECU will go to warm-up enrichment...you will run rich. Above 210 deg F, the ECU retards timing in an effort to prevent detonation. You are showing big temp swings...that is not what you usually see. OAT will only affect this to the...

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Hmmm...coolant thermostat? TSRM Thermostat The way your temps drop at speed is leading me to believe either you don't have one installed or it's stuck open.

    A340E Buildup Information Thread

One part I've seen break on the A340E are the sprags...generally on high HP motors. Not a lot you can do other than have them cyro treated. Had my input and output shafts cyro treated too. Stock type clutches will graze under high HP/torque, causing the tranny to slip.

A quick question regardng oil and oil pressure

Free is good ;) Your oil pressure is not excessive...in fact, it's quite good for a stock system. The reason I asked about the filter is to make sure you were not running a crappy one and it causing a problem...A K&N is a decent filter though. If you shim an oil pump 5mm, you can expect...

A quick question regardng oil and oil pressure

Is the above figures hot or cold? And (once again) what pressure are you showing at idle and what oil filter are you using? If you want me to help you, please don't make me drag info out of you...I also speak in psi, not Bar. The pressure increase from shimming the pump depends on if the...

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Is there a thermostat installed? If so, what temp?

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Could be timing...what do you have yours set at? What temp thermostat are you running? Another thing to check is the fan clutch...especially if the temps at highway speed drop to what you're used to seeing. BTW - the stock ECU looks for 176-210 degs as normal ops temps. Below 176, you...

A quick question regardng oil and oil pressure

When you say "quite a bit", exactly how much pressure (in psi) did you have before and after at idle and 3000 rpm? And what weight oil and brand filter are you using? You can have too much pressure on a 7M, but it's hard to achieve. Generally, shimming the pump 5mm on a stock system is safe.

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Don't have to...true to form, you're doing a fine job all on your own. BTW - concerning oil...98% of us don't run drag motors ;)

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Well, you could degree your cams and get them "dead nuts on" by adjusting your gears...it will be more difficult to do with the engine in the car. BTW - your were smart to take Forced up on his offer ;)

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

1st of all Gordon, I'm not a punk kid..not even close. ;) 2nd, The hole I'm talking about is in the saddle...the hole you show is under the cam seal. 3rd, I never said anything about blowing a seal...you did. What I did say is there is oil under pressure behind the cam seals (and there...

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Got news for ya...that "hole" in the front cam saddle is the pressure feed for the cam flowing to the rest of the journals aft through the center of the cam :3d_frown: 7M Oil System Diagram And there are no bearings for any of the cam journals. STFU unless you know what you're talking...

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Yep...you're wrong. The cam oil seals are behind the plate...the cams are fed oil under pressure through the 1st journal aft of the gear mounts. Oil attracts dirt...not to mention the random drops of oil from the seals going forward under deceleration and hitting the timing belt/gears. Plus...

Wow! I guess all the custom made FFIM's (Ron's, Seth's, IJ's, etc) are going to blow at any moment :runaway: I'm calling :bsflag:

Any alternative markings to do cam gear timing with???

Are you sure you're a MA enginnering student? Think about what that plate does over the long term and what is under it and what runs across it. It's just not that hard to put one on...especially a free one.

Hmmm...I would not run the motor without that plate.

    Staggered Head Work

Yeah...Del Rio is out in the sticks (I was stationed at Laughlin many years ago). Why don't you check over in San Antonio? Or, you could PM Suprarich and see what he'll do it for you...he knows what he doing on a 7M ;)
