Can the CA Evap Sys Test Cause damage and bad MPGs?

Geezer - it would help if we knew what the car failed for on the 1st test and what work was done on the car. Timing may or may not be the problem. In any case, the stock 10 deg BDTC is best. Remember the car needs to be warm, normal idle, and you have to jump TE1 and E1 in the diagnostic...

Failed emissions. Was fantastic last year.

That's what I was thinking concerning the TPS. Depending on the numbers, the EGR and KS code should have the biggest impact. Jeez JJ, looks like you're in the running for the "guy who dies with the most toys wins" competition :biglaugh:

Failed emissions. Was fantastic last year.

The EGR does not function at idle and above ~4000 RPM. Code 41 is the TPS or it's wiring to the ECU....loss of the VTA signal from the TPS can cause some driveability issues, but usually not severe. I would believe it can cause *some* problems with emissions. That hose will contribute...

Failed emissions. Was fantastic last year.

High NOx is caused by the EGR. Since you have a CA car (EGR code...low gas temps)...it's telling you there's a problem. Could be the valve, vac modulator, vsv, or your intake manifold channel is clogged up. If you have a code 52, the problem could just as easily be in the KS wiring (this is...

Failed emissions. Was fantastic last year.

Not sure what's in the Ford product, but those containing Polyether Amine (PEA) are the most effective injector and valve deposit cleaners out there. It was invented by Chevron and is in their Techron product and their gasoline...don't use the Chevron ProGuard, it's a watered down version. PEA...

Can the CA Evap Sys Test Cause damage and bad MPGs?

It shouldn't...all the evap system does is collect gas vapor from the tank, collects it in the charcoal canister, and purges it (through the BVSV) to the TB. What other work did they do? And, was the EFI fuse pulled or the battery disconnected?

Running really bad?? After Engine Wash

Pulled your wires off and didn't write the order down huh? Gee, no one's ever done that before :D Coil pack order, left to right: 1-6-3-4-2-5

    Possible BHG!?!?

Sounds like a normal system to me...the upper hose will get hard once the car warms up and the system pressurizes. Some coolant (~8-12 oz) will be pushed into the coolant bottle due to coolant expansion...when the car cools off, suction pulls the coolant back into the rad. If your coolant...

    Possible BHG!?!?

Try again...that's 2 out of 4 questions answered. If you want me to help you, stop making me pull teeth to get info out of you. A normal system will push a small quantity of coolant out to the bottle, then suck it back in on cool down. This is what I'm asking...it has nothing to do with a BHG.

Is this a lost cause? (Exhaust Tip Question Again)

I think he's talking about the "splotchy" effect...heat will turn stainless a gold color. You might want to try a product specifically for stainless...or, give rubbing compound a try. I use Blue Magic metal polish.

    Possible BHG!?!?

This is a classic example of playing the "20 question game" trying to get a picture of what the problem is from the OP. "Guessing" what the problem is does not help either. BTW - running the motor with the cap off will not do squat...this is a pressurized system as previously stated. Dude...

Might want to check all the ignition connections like Hommer suggested...igniter, coil packs, AFM, etc.

A340e Won't Shift Until Engine Warms Up!?

When you changed the fluid, did you just drain and add make up ATF? Is your O/D light blinking? Might want to check for tranny codes: http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=AT&P=13 Might want to take a look at the troubleshooting chart as well...

This thread has served it's purpose. The OP's question was answered.

    ECU, Deceleration, and You!

This is correct. An automatic handles it the same way...the ECU halts fuel injecton completely. The pump continues to run...fuel is simply returned to the tank.

    ECU, Deceleration, and You!

Well, that's your perception...it's shared by a couple others here too. The ones that don't like it when they are bluntly told they are flat wrong. You need to understand JJ does not "candy coat" what he says. Makes me wonder who actually has the problem...a question you may want to ask...

    ECU, Deceleration, and You!

Hommer - In JJ's case, he has this manual and others that go into even greater detail on how the TCCS works. If JJ tells you that the ECU does this because of that, I can give you a 100% assurance that it is true. Your perception of the way others "act" concerning knowledge is in no way...

    ECU, Deceleration, and You!

Hommer - it does...page 82: Fuel injection resumes when engine speed falls below a certain RPM or the TB is opened. JJ is just telling it like it is...sorry it doesn't jive with what you think.
