Can always fabricate a manual tensioner, but you wouldn't have posted this thread if you were in the habit of making custom parts. Besides, I seem to remember a few threads discussing WHY Toyota put in an auto-tensioner rather than the manual units found on the M-series.

With these cars, any little bit of help you can give them to keep them running cool is worth your effort, so I would suggest running a shroud, *particularly* if you plan to drive anywhere with high ambient temps as Grimjack said. These days, even summer temps in cooler climates are getting warmer...

My extremely limited knowledge of electrical systems would suggest poor insulation somewhere. Last time I saw a distributor, the only insulation on it was that little plastic cap... That would be my *guess*, hopefully someone who knows their electrical voltage from their Mt Dew voltage will...
