Dual Filter by pass filter/mount clarification

I prefer'd a TP filter like the MotorGaurd or Frantz but no longer use them because modern engines (or an older one rebuilt well) will usually out last the car. A depth filter used on the tranny or PS is a different story. Due to the close tolerance parts involved all hydraulic systems (which is...

No spark, no start need advise

Read the thread. It's impossible for you to have had the exact problem. No, also not possible. I already told you what it could be. It's a simple matter of using the TEWD and a meter to find the problem. For not being a noob when it comes to cars you seem pretty lost...

No spark, no start need advise

Most of the sensors are powered by 5 volts. It s called Vc. If it gets shorted to ground the ECU becomes brain dead. It's a rare occurrence though. More likely you don't have power to the ECU. Check the EFI fuse, Gauge fuse, and Ign fuse. If those are OK check that the EFI main relay (it's...

    bad afm?? ohms not right!

It's not fuel cut. You need to verify all the basics. Valve and ignition timing, vacuum leaks, firing order, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel pressure, hoses hooked up right, stuff like that. And again, check for codes. Read the manual and always start with the basics. Some oil in the accordion...

Dual Filter by pass filter/mount clarification

The Trasko acts as both full flow and bypass via an integral metering valve. It automatically shunts a little oil through the element while the rest goes through fine mesh screens. The screens don't provide the level of filtration a typical full flow filter would though so you might still want...

No spark, no start need advise

Funny you should ask. I was going to say the first thing to do when having this kind of problem is to see if the check engine light comes on with the key. If it doesn't either 1) the ECU has no power or 2) the 5 volt sensor reference is shorted. I suppose the bulb could also be burned out. A bad...

CPS controls the ECU. ECU controls the igniter. Igniter controls the coils. It's all in the manual...

The CPS is reluctor based. Generates it's own signal. No power required.

    bad afm?? ohms not right!

Those checks are not only correct but actually are in the TSRM. Just not the Cygnus one. In fact there's lots of good stuff missing from the 89 and later manuals. I'd still throw the Haynes in the trash though...

    Blower motor problems

I'm usually not one to cheap out but assuming there's no radial shaft play, rust, and the motor is electrically ok, try re-oiling the sleeve bearings through the holes in each end of the housing put there for that purpose. It's a common problem on fractional horsepower motors and car blowers in...

    weird problem

Well, not all. Besides, chip called it and lacking a gage his suggestion of jumping the fuel pump on to confirm is a good one. Most fuel injected engines can be a bitch to hot start after 30-60 minutes if rest pressure (Toyota calls it residual pressure but I prefer the Bosch term) is lost...

    weird problem

This symptom is typically caused by a loss of rest pressure. Since vapor can't form in the rail with it present that's where I'd begin looking.

white smoke when pulling plug wires

Then you're doing it correctly. What he is doing risks damage to the coil packs. No, it wouldn't. And the TSRM igniter test procedure, unless read very carefully, won't work. Probably why you couldn't get the thing to trigger.

    Blinking CEL

All that means is you had multiple problems. You solved the AFM issue but now the other problem(s) has become apparent. You still seem stuck on the "swap stuff out" approach to troubleshooting though. Hardly the best way to do things.

Spark plug wire order for 7M?

I was referring to you being the thread originator from 2008. I would think you'd have it figured out by now but I certainly understand why you're confused by the manual: it's missing information. The page you're referring shows how the plug wires get routed in the clips, which has nothing...

white smoke when pulling plug wires

He may be looking for knock or doing what's called called a cylinder power balance test, although the right way to do it is short the plug out.
