Long Island Tobay meet April 10th

The rebuild looks great Kirk! :) Sorry to hear about the teething issues but, welcome to the club! I'll be helping another member pull his engine in the morning. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and we'll be washed up and at Tobay before missing anything. 1sic7- Cool! We'll be on the...

    Machine Timing Cover (quick question)

If what you have done to the block has removed metal from the deck surface, the timing cover will need to match that. Put a straight edge across both surfaces when they are together. If you can fit a feeler guage in at the front of the block, you'll need to do something about it.

    Ebay Turbo Kit

Repost from the old forum but, I suppose that doesn't count! I agree with Ck on this one. The turbo and wastegate are bound to be short lived. There will be numerous fitment issues etc...

cylinder head porting theories... and such

Ever wonder why the ehaust valve is smaller than the intake valve? When the exhaust valve opens after the combustion stroke, the pressure inside the cylinder is much greater than that in the exhaust manifold. This naturally expidites exhaust flow out of the cylinder. The port needs to be...

    Hoodpins + Stupidity

Yes, Halon is illegal. It is too bad, I witnessed a 10 lb bottle of halon extingish a fully involved Ford Bronco fire years ago. It is a very effective fire suppresant. Dry chemical extinguishers are the second best for car fires IMO. We have them all around the shop, and I have witnessed thier...

    Hoodpins + Stupidity

I have a pair of Nomex gloves in the "glovebox" since originally reading about your fire cjennings. I've got to find a better place for the extingusher than rolling around behind the seat....

    piston/valve clearence?

Eh, cc the chambers in the head before and after bieng shaved, then LMK how much "a little" is. I'll have a better answer for that then.

fuel cut or need tires??? car skips at wot?

The check engine light comes on (briefly) when you hit the fuel cut. It isn't based on boost pressure, it is based on airflow seen by the ECU.

    piston/valve clearence?

IIRC, the stock gasket is around 1.2mm compressed thickness. .010" is equivelant to .25mm so, one of the multi layer steel 1.4mm gaskets from Cometic or Titan or the 1.5 from Greddy would be about right then, assuming there wasn't any material removed from the block (though I'd have it...

My error code 51 is driving me nuts

If you are having trouble setting the ignition timing, the IDL switch in the TPS is not closed with the throttle closed. Adjust the TPS so that the switch is closed, you will be able to set the base timing then.

    crankshaft pulley

5th gear is the best to use. A properly functioning parking brake and clutch are needed as well. It was real easy with solid motor mounts this last time for me. :D I've also had luck with an assistant wedging a prybar in the flywheel teeth at the starter hole, as an alternative method. Whatever...

    piston/valve clearence?

You should be replacing the head gasket with a correspondingly thicker one in order to maintain the compression ratio. Valve clearance isn't going to be an issue with the stock cams/valves.

    Gas Prices

Some will say dwindling resources, oil cartel in the white house, environmental protection etc... I say bullshit, it is pure opportunistic price gouging in the finest American tradition. Increasing the cost to what the market will bear. I just bought a truck that averages 10 MPG! Ha! I...

    T-88h and the mk3 supra

    T-88h and the mk3 supra

Yep, probably around 5400 rpm instead of 5500. Do it! That would be cool! :p Just get some 1000 cc injectors and a couple other little things.

how do i know if im rich

A wideband isn't going to interface with your stock ECU. You'll need some sort of tuning method to take advantage of the information. There are plenty of tuning methods to choose from, from an AFPR to a standalone ECU replacement that will interface with a wideband and plenty of stops inbetween.
