Do you have access to another set of known working coils? If you do and you still have the problem, I'd be looking at possibly your ignition tuning. Try to track down some verified good coils first though. :) Edit: I just noticed you said you installed NEW coils. "New" new, or new-to-you new...

You forget to mention two things: ambient temperatures and your fan setup. In hot weather, my fans have a hard time keeping my engine below 210°, and it's not all that uncommon for the thing to run up to 220° on the freeways in Vegas and Phoenix. Here in Wyoming though, the ambient temps are...

I can report that I have this condition as well, but don't consider it a problem. Can't say I've ever heard a Supra that doesn't have a little bit of valve clatter, but haven't done enough with them or bothered to look into whether it causes any problems. All 24 of my valves are within Toyota...

Looks to me, from the picture of your hood being up, that any water coming into the engine bay would drop down without hitting any particularly hot bits, avoiding whatever steaming might come. By the way, I love the way your car looks man, never seen it before. Wish I could get a set of Type 03...

Give me some time gentlemen, I think I could be worth mentioning in here. Maybe. Won't know for sure until at LEAST this time next year, if not later. Bought a house, so that pushes car completion back quite a ways... that $1200+/month that goes to the house could go a LONG way toward the Supra...

Did you get around to checking out your coils then? That's the other big electrical gremlin I've seen pop up a lot with 1j's.

This has me a little excited for my setup. Too bad it's gonna be a good 8 months or so before things come together.

I've heard of drum brakes exploding when taken apart, is this a risk with refreshing our E-brakes? Something I read in an old Rock Auto newsletter 'blunders' section.

Same here, at least with my Mk2. Sucks living where the roads are paved with dirt. :rolleyes: Can't keep a car clean, even with more than regular washing.

That's sad to hear. Even if you drive a LOT for work, the car payment on a Yaris (not to mention extra insurance) would go a long way toward the extra gas a Mk3 would use. Oh well, one person's desire to trade old for new (not 'up') is another person's treasure. :)

Good Lord man... breaking into the 7's with "only" 1100whp? That is quite impressive. How is that MPH versus the ET? Seems kinda low (mph wise) for the ET, at least what I've seen of Supras. Either you can drive the car properly (obviously) or most other runs I've seen can't cut a 60' too well...
