Dok: You need to saw off most of the Flange ion the Comp Cover then trim the Elbow a bit before welding it on the Comp Cover.
(I do mine this way, I also add a 3" reducer)
Yes you need to shim and the shims will need to be whatever they take off the base circle thicker than stock.
This can be a problem at high rpm as they tend to get spit out and destroy the valvetrain.
I had mine hard face welded then reground way back before there were many choices available.
Mine easily pulls 150/mph-5000 rpm in top gear with the auto.
(GPS verified and done on a closed test track)
Car is quite drivable at this speed after cranking 1/4 turn of damping into the Koni's, was a bit floaty before that.
Remember guys the stock speedo is very inaccurate over 100...
