The JDM JZA70 upper rear arms I had are different shape to the AU MA70 ones so maybe there's a difference at the front as well?

If you're using the correct size plugs that there will be your problem ;) You need to get them in with the minimum amount of hits ie: no lots of little taps as it removes the plug's Crush fit needed to hold them in place. (this is a very old school thing taught to me 33 years ago)

Describe in detail how you're fitting them.

Mine with a 1.06ar would flatten out after 7500.

Our cars use a double a arm suspension that already has a good deal of rate change and when you run progressive springs like shown in the ad it just blows through the lighter spring at the slightest bump.

The dual rate springs will suck on an a70.
