Stitch think dotted lines on toilet paper the idea being if a crack starts it ends at the gap in the weld, Seam is continuous and if a crack starts it goes right to the end and the structure fails.
I don't think it does too much for rigidity unless the car has badly designed panel joints, but it DOES help in an accident situation as the shell structure is a lot stronger. (this is from personal experience)(stitch welded is preferable)
If you're going to buy something for reliability a swapped anything is about the dumbest idea ever.... :nono:
