If your kickdown cable wont pull out of the sheath that could mean that its hung up where it connects inside the trans. If you cant find another reason why the cable wont pull, you will have to drop the pan. The arm inside that the cable hooks to must be obstructed or the cable end isnt in its slot.

Im guessing SH meant when you are putting a motor together, and you have the cams in but nothing on the front of them yet. When I did my motor I torqued the cams, measured, calculated, removed cams and reshimmed. Then reinstall cams, verify gap and proceed with the rest of the build.

pulling the motor and trans and working outside the car is great if you have a hoist and an extra set of hands but its still more work than dropping the trans out back. The W58 is cake. Just get the car up high enough to give yourself plenty of room to work. ...and dont drop the trans on...

Fluid level reads normal? Check your kickdown cable and make sure its not hung up. Sounds like a line pressure problem to me.

When I did mine very few of my rings needed filing, so I did it by hand.

You should be able to get the trans out using a standard rolling floor jack. If you dont have one the rolls you can get under the trans and drop it on your chest.
