Over heating is either going to be caused by excessive heat introduction (i.e. What Suprra girl said or bhg from a cylinder to a water jacket) or lack of adaquate heat reduction (i.e. bad radiator, water restriction, lack of airflow). I dont recall seeing the answer to this in your...

sounds like a low battery from the description. Got a charger? If that still doesnt work alot of times just while sitting the battery connections can corrode enough to make it not start.

yes the switches arent that hard to take apart, but I suggest in addition to some air that you use some contact cleaner and follow that up with dielectric grease just before re-assembly.

Well Asterix's math may not take into account everything but its probably closer than just throwing out a wild guess. Assuming you dont have any serious drag (locked brakes, flat tires, etc.) a 2000lb winch should be sufficiant. Also remember those ratings on winches are the "safe" range...
