FWIW the cold start injector does have a noticable effect on my car.

first off i would paint the exposed metal in the inside of the hole you just made to discourage rust formation. also whatever lines you run through there make sure you use a grommet, otherwise expect some trouble with short circuts, vacuum leaks, etc after a few miles.
