Am in the process of using/trying to adapt z32 calipers with the 350z rotors(12.7" or the mk4 rotors. It can be done but takes a little bit of cash plus a bracket. Once i get more feedback, i'd gladly share my experience.

A leakdown test would be a little better if somehow you do have a problem, since it will pinpoint the fault easier by going even further than a compression test would. Also its pretty easy to use, and the instructions will aide you out if you do run into a problem.
