/\ Don't jump the gun here... An intermittent high pitched squeaking that goes away under any steering movement or even a touch to the brake pedal more often than not is the brake pad wear sensor.
Check your pads, and I'm willing to bet you'll find they are quite worn.
If they are not, then...
The bad bearing will show itself when loaded. It'll be the outside wheel when turning. If you're turning left, and it makes noise, it's the right bearing. If you're turning right, then it's the left bearing.
Yes you can Matt. Perform a full coolant system flush, taking all precautionary steps to remove all air bubbles that may be trapped in the system. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get all new coolant circulating through your system anyhow.
Well I don't know about that, I had to replace the LH Front bearing on my subaru and it would be moderately noisy while going straight, but when turning right, it would get much louder as it's "bearing" more weight
(hehehahaha get it?!?! ok.. enough... i hate puns..)
Powdercoat will hold up, but just go to your local vatozone or o'rly?s and pick up a can of Duplicolor Caliper Paint. It's a brush on Enamel kit that goes on pretty thick. It should fill in all the small pits.
In the future, don't let raw cast iron sit around!
