how many miles did it have before you bought it? :)
A properly built Supra can last you a looooong time if you do two things.. 1. maintain it religiously and 2. dont beat it up.
I recommend walking away.. simply because if your doing it on a "whim".. your going to hate yourself later.
Sure.. the car is great to own and drive.. and unique now (thanks to the fact that they dont age well without a lot of maintenance), but you will find (especially if you read the forums...
Im at 20k.. lol.. but would be extremely lucky to get half that..
The cars aren't quite up there for value yet unless you find someone like me who knows what it takes to get where your going and is willing to shortcut by buying the completed product.
Unfortunately.. those with the $$ to buy a...
Simple little box.. works nicely because its removable and movable.. and fits under the targa.
Simple.. so I have a simple picture.. if you want a pic of the sides, etc.. let me know.. otherwise.. I think you get the idea.. lol
You get the appraised value + 1500.00 for parts with the insurance I have. Im not sure of the differences between companies. If the car is appraised for 10,000.. you get 10,000. Mind you, it costs me less than 10.00 per month for it.
I keep track because my car is insured as an "antique - collectible", so the appraisal is the value of the car. Im at the point now though that unless the car value spikes.. anything I put into it wont be recouped if someone toasts the car.. lol. (my biggest fear)
Well, a little update.. gonna be about 3 weeks until the car is complete. The 90 tail lights are on it (very huge improvement) its all painted and ready for the final polish.. just reassembly happening and fixing little things (has to go in for a retouch to the paint on the passenger side...
I added the Shine Auto Whaletail.. but I like both the 89+ wing and the whaletail equally. Without isn't all that good but thats personal preference. Also, retro-spec sells the trim for the 89+. I would replace your rears at the minimum with fibreglass and paint it (as I did on mine. The full...
You have to remember that the new paints today are a different compound. The paint I am using on my car wont suffer from the fade issues. They are more environmentally friendly and far more colorfast than "back in the day". You can actually get away with painting the parts and then painting the...
Day 1 of Supra Ownership - I drove the car
Day 2 of Supra Ownership - I found the forums
Day 3 of Supra Ownership - I bought a strut bar from ebay (for 15.00)
Day 842 of Supra Ownership - After not putting the strut bar on at any point in time (the price scared me) I found that if I bolt it to...
The targa seal leak is very common at the front and rear joints on the sides (where the targa rubber meets the car rubber). You can actually do a little build up with silicone in some cases just to make up for the minor shrinkage.
Failing that of course.. the seals are available and there is a...
I stuck with the stock grey on my 88, but went with a slightly darker color used on the 2010 Toyotas with a heavy metal flake and a red flip. My parts are all painted and very happy with it (I dont have the color code sitting in front of me). I went darker because at night the car is very close...
Just keep in mind.. if your rear portion of the car is solid.. its worth holding onto or selling just for that. The quarter panels do NOT have patch panels and to rebuild that lip is severely difficult.. There are no replacement parts for the rear body that I have found (quarters/wheel wells). I...
The quote I got on having a shop in my town do a full rebuild (this includes a rebuild of the head) from top to bottom on my 7M to handle about 600 HP+ at the crank was 10,000.00. And.. that was just an estimate, but it would be guaranteed to stand up to the power.
Since then, from reading...
Measuring the head is fairly simple.. but 510?? That will probably get you the gaskets/seals.. but you can not take apart a 7M and rebuild it without prepping the block/head properly. Plus.. your dealing with a motor that had an issue.. so.. what caused it? You may want to look at the engine...
Not rear damage.. rear condition.. meaning.. is there any rust? Thats the area that will fall apart from winter driving up here. To me.. a good Supra has solid quarter panels (no rust inside or out), no rust in the wheel wells (under the undercoat.. where all the ones I find have the metal...
