Timing effects EGT greatly as it changes the position of the valves relative to the explosion during power stroke. When you advanced the timing the TCCS was most likely retarding timing under boost to fight detonation causing the power stroke to burn later increasing the combustion temperature...

Currently running the TR12. Works well and the outlet side has always felt colder then ambient how ever i drive. Seems to work Excellent. Still working on getting an intake air temp sensor mounted just after the outlet though.
Fitment is perfect. I think its the biggest intercooler you can fit...
Theres no way unless the casting is cracked that coolant could leak there. There is however the gasket between the head and intake manifold that coolant runs threw. Its under the lower plenum.
Ebay has good couplers you just need to look at the pictures and read the description to make sure you get what you want.
There pretty cheap too, I got 2 three inch couplers for 14 bucks shipped good quality, and i got a 3 to 2-3/4 reducer for 12 shipped good quality also.
