I've only had one experience with one, it wasn't on my car but a friend's VR-4 3000GT.
I believe it was an OBX unit.
Didn't control fuel pressure at all, the adjustment screw did nothing.
Could be a lot of things, if you checked the preload on the pedal and that wasn't it... then pull off the inspection plate and see if there is any oil residue evidence of a rear main seal leak.
If you've confirmed the preload is good, and there is no evidence of oil... then it's time to drop...
Not only do I agree with this, but it would also behoove you to write school papers on subjects your professor can relate to. Not only will doing that boost your grade, but will teach you something new for a change.
