I don't like seat covers, my leather seats look almost like they had a close encounter with a lawn mower, but they're still functional and still keep the foam in. :icon_razz
Lol @ supraguy...you have too much fun with that don't you? :icon_razz
While you've got the spark plugs out I'd just double check and make sure you're getting spark too.
Stock temperature "acceptable" range is up to 212F (or 100C). After that the ECU starts doing it's thing and starts pulling timing to try and get the engine temps down. The stock temp gauge still reads normal at this temperature though. Stock gauge doesn't really start moving until your well...
I blew an HKS gasket....or rather my head cracked. It can still happen. Start by trying to find any coolant dripping from the engine/bay area. Does your top rad hose get pressurized when your car gets nice and warm? If you can't find any drips and your top rad hose is not getting pressurized...
So your head has already been planed to the limit? If you're looking for a used head, absolutely positively make sure you get it hardness tested. The alluminum is very susceptible to annealing if it's ever been exposed to high temps (ie...BHG/overheating :P). Even if the head looks amazing...
I'd put my vote in for the sleeved as well. Even if there's not too much rub against, no harm in taking extra precaution and besides, it looks better anyway (IMO).
Assuming you're getting fuel and spark, there's no reason it shouldn't fire up like it's been running for years. First thing I'd do is check the timing, make sure you're match marks on the cam gears line up straight when the crank is showing TDC on the timing case (confirm with a chopstick in...
If you've got a mechanic's stethoscope listen to the bottom end while a buddy revs the engine. If you don't have a stethoscope, you could pick one up (they're pretty cheap) or you can use something solid against your ear and the block/oil pan, such as a broom handle, screwdriver, etc. You...
There's also a sticky at the top of the tech section here: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?97552-Head-Gasket-thickness-selection
That should answer most of the questions you have. If you're not going to throwing a ton of boost at the build (eg. keeping it under 15psi on the...
1.) ARP Studs are the better route
2.) If you're doing the bottom end as well, just about anything down there isn't a bad idea to replace as well. Be smart with things. If it is bad condition, replace it. I replaced my exhaust manifold studs/nuts because they were in horrible condition.
3.)...
That would do it. Would still have a hard time making it to the intercooler from there, but with the fans spinning and whatnot I guess it could be possible to splash in that direction.
I get nothing but compliments on my car, and my car needs a front bumper repaint and some body work on the left side quarter panel! Haha! I guess all the damage is on one side of the car, so if you view it from the other it looks good, but still.
My buddy has a black 88 turbo that has going through it's fourth engine rebuild and has been rebuilt from a "totalled" status by ICBC from a hit and run by himself and his dad. Every time it dies on him he goes through a lot of grief as to oh well should I sell it now or just fix it or what to...
