I took mine out for seal replacement myself in the garage.. it was such a PITA.. took me long time... I have 3" exhaust that was on the way to pull the axles out of the sides.. jack the wheels up and make the axles horizontal before you pull them out of the side flanges.. all that work.. and now...
this noise is dfntly not bearings... i tried disconnected the drive shaft and tried to turn the differential front flange.. it takes a lot of force to make it turn initially.. it gets earier to turn as I turn faster.. Also, where do I get a differential rebuilt? any machine shop? need to find...
I tracked the noise down to the differential (LSD). Now the noise is a high pitch whine.. loud till 65mph. Afther 65 mph, the noise level seem to reduce. Also, i hear a faint jerking sound when I tap on the gas pedal while car is running less than 60 mph. what are options? new diff? if so...
would you explain what was the symptoms that lead you to replace the bearings? I have some noise from the rear end that i am chasing for a while. What kind of noise was it? was it a rolling noise? or squeeling noise (like a brake noise when pad is almost used up)?? Thanks,
I did this recently as well.. mine shifts just fine.. 2nd is little tough to get into some times.. but that was that way before I did this mod.. mine is 87 Turbo. Also, the bushing was not easy to install.. did you replace the plastic bushing at the bottom of the shifter stick?
when you say the car bearly moves.. bearly moves in first gear too?? may be center part of the disk broke loose.. I have Clutch masters clutch.. its been perfect so far... (10 K miles)
from the title i thought you went to the "Autozone" for aftermarket head gasket.. haaaa.. I wish I could do that kind of driving here in northern virginia... anything over 90 mph anywhere would put you in jail...
My cars rear end made a rolling noise.. inspected the center bearing.. it was loose.. the driveshaft was moving all over the place.. so, i bought a center bearing from Jeff W. Now the jerking during downshifting went away.. but rolling noise continues...
