    7M build advise please

Well, after some shopping, thinking, more shopping and more thinking... Basically, I'm going to tear the thing down. New timing belt, bearings, rings, oil pump. Got a line on a nice micropolished crank, and some shotpeened balanced rods. Keep the pistons. (Though the Probe forged pistons are...

Reusing arp studs and HKS head gasket question

That piston looks like it's been hammered from the bottom by the con rod. Busted wrist pins aren't nice.

    7M build advise please

Well, this is why I asked. I guess I'll just have to grit my teeth and live on rice and beans for a couple extra weeks. :P In many ways this car is living on borrowed time as is, the chassis is well into the "miled out" age and condition, and really, this build is more about me being stubborn...

    7M build advise please

No, I'm not sure that it's crank walk, but it is an unpleasant hammering sound at ~2k RPM which seems very much consistent with rod knock at the very least. I will only consider the MHG if the block surface is already very good, or yeah, I'll suck it up and take it in for machining work...

    7M build advise please

Okay, after replacing the clutch last year (ACT stage 3), I got some issues, which seem to fit with a walked crank, or at the very least, rod knock. I've got another 7M-GTE lined up, and should be here before the weekend, which I want to get ready to drop in. In preparation for this, I've...

    Puzzling alternator issue

That's what the rings looked like on my alternator when I replaced the brushes... 220,000 km ago.

    crank pulley question

Naw. Get another one, it's not like these things are rare, nor is it likely that a used one would be damaged in a non-obvious way. Probably a good idea though to get one that matches the crank you have. I don't know if they're different for a 6M crank vs. 7M crank. ('86.5-'89 vs '90-'92)

    No more rev limiter?

My tach lies like a rug. I hit the rev limiter a number of times, because it happens when my tach reads ~5200 RPM. Maybe your tach is the other way?

7mgte swap. Car started first crank last week. Won't start now.

Stock FP should be more than good enough to be running rich at stockish boost levels. It's only over 14 or so PSI boost that I'd doubt the stock fuel pump. Certainly NOT at idle.

    Best sounding mk3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kzzpH9EYOs&context=C3d67fcbADOEgsToPDskKNKDSZwo2XjXT6OP9peK5M This was on stock CT26 with Boss elbow, RT downpipe (Racing, no cat), and Tanabe hyper medallion exhaust. It's actually very quiet, at a recent meet, it was noted that mine was one of the quietest cars...

    ▀ 7M Pinouts Early '89 Wiring, '88 M/T Pinouts! ▀

Oh man! Where was this when I was dropping an '87 7M-GTE into my early '89 NA chassis? :D :P Actually it worked out pretty well, though I did just run a new wire for the headlight relays.

    New SP "Bolt on" Turbo

I have the turbonetics bolt on, and aside from the oil fittings, the same issue. Compressor is too big, needed a 1/2" spacer to bolt it tot he manifold. In this case though, it was the choice of compressor which got me. There are certainly smaller compressors which would have fit just fine...

    post snow pics here

I drove my Mk3 through several winters. Toyo Observe GO-3 tires (205/55R16) have been good to it. They're fine on dry pavement below about 7 deg C (~40 def F) Above that, they get chewed down pretty fast. Up here, I've never seen anything that I'd deem "winter apropriate" in an all season tire...

    90' GTE into 87' car

I put an '87 GTE into an '89 car. I used the '87 electronics and wiring harness. The ABS didn't plug 'n play, and there were a couple of small issues, but it worked. If you're putting the '90 engine in and using the '87 electronics, then you'll need to change up a few things. Injectors...

    post snow pics here

Not from this year, we've hardly had any snow this year, but last year when we had some record snowfalls... The little dark spot in the back is the gap between the spoiler and the hatch.

    Longest trip in your MK3?

Some months after buying my '89NA in 1996, took the car for a highway trip from central Alberta to Tulsa OK. Lost the A/C somewhere in Kansas, and it was really hot down there. This also qualifies for "fastest highway speed" though I don't trust the speedometer that far, the tach did get to...

550cc and Lexus AFM Question about power!

Well, it's kind of the same, but kind of not. It really is injector duty cycle that determines fuel cut. This is why on otherwise stock engines with just boost control, people living in Seatle, WA will hit FCO at 10 PSI (Very near sea level) and people in Calgary, AB can get to 14 PSI...

    Rod knock Qs

Okay, so I'll take option 2 off the table for now. At least until I see what the bearings in this engine look like. There's a really nice condition NA for sale around here, and I'll keep it in consideration just because it looks so nice. It's an '87, but since I have all of the '89 stuff, I can...

    Rod knock Qs

Yeah, that's kind of my fear with another engine. Regardless, I don't plan on keeping my oil cooler, I plan to go with an aftermarket cooler coupled with an oil filter relocation kit.

Difference between clutch masters when doing 5spd swap

Old style one also works with the braided SS line from Driftmotion, which is (IMO) a good thing.
