Update: I just sourced an mr2 alternator (from the 3sgte) and the power steering pump for 110 shipped, as a backup if I can't use the one from our donor mr2...
...always good to have a backup plan, right?
I thought about using a ball bearing wrapped in a nylon sheath, because I think metal on metal would eventually wear a hole in the bolt for the control arm...
and honestly, I would prefer having no give, considering what i do with my car, but I think it would beat it apart.
Well, in my case I know my alternator is good...I have an alternator tester in my garage (ya never know, right?), so in my case it probably is my connectors, which I'm sure have their fair share of crap built up in them. What I may end up doing is a) Build a grounding kit b) Get all of my plugs...
Nashman: are you talking about bleeding out some of your power steering fluid in your lines, as in a controlled leak?
If so, that would put air into your lines, which is going to make your power steering whine, which would annoy the hell out of me...plus at some point I would have to replace...
at MOST it draws 80 amps, but that's on the highest output that it can push, which would be like turning the wheels all the way and still trying to turn it.
I'm pretty sure that 130 amps will be sufficient, if not, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
That, and the whole "rainy night"...
How would I control progressive steering?
Well, that's a simple question. I don't plan on swapping the whole computer and all that crap, so whenever you feel like doing something stupid (and most likely illegal) switch it to low...or off.
That's enough variation for me.
Nashman: I'm really...
well, cleanliness and HP as ideal mentioned are high on my lists, but I do like the feeling of a spirited drive, and being able to "turn off" the power steering is an idea that I've been toying with a lot since my first supra (which didn't have power steering). I feel that you're more connected...
A friend of mine has an mr2 that's pretty well destroyed that we're parting out and I'm thinking of retrofitting the electric power steering pump onto my mkiii.
Upon studying the wiring diagrams/dicking around on the internet I've noticed that it's a four-wire style of pump (electric, not...
well, i'm just sick of the look of the popup headlights, and given the opportunity, I would do the whole soapra conversion thing, but considering how hard it is to find the parts, I don't see that happening any time soon.
I have a beat up stock fender and might just try putting the two...
well, he's picking up an 89 cressida for nothing because the motor's screwed and we're thinking about attempting this on one of our parts cars for the hell of it...
...if the front end is too long I can use half of a stock fender and graft the two of them together. I don't know, I'll just have...
i run open dp pretty much all the time...
...well, I have a 3" in/out "race muffler" from summitt that's basically just enough to be considered a muffler when i go to track days that pretty much does nothing as far as sound is concerned, but it satisfies them, so whatever.
