I know what you mean, the big purchases are quantifiable, and believable. But it's the little odds and ends that can really sneak out of nowhere and surprise you.
Ok makes sence. I can help you get it working but it will probably be an exercise in patience. First a couple of questions.
1. Since you didn't mention 64-bit I assume you are running Windows XP 32-bit edition, correct
2. Is this the card you bought...
True the Burllens were pretty awsome, and my personal favorite.
I'm currently running a Magnaflow on mine and love the sound(I know, it's sacraliage putting such a muffler on an import). I did it for the stock look but I really do like the sound.
Why do you want to upgrade from your motherboard audio? These days you have to get into the mid to high end sound cards before you start getting better than the integrated audio. Unless your motherboard is ancient, then it's understandable. Realistically upgrading your speakers will provide a...

As you can see they are different.
Now please verify this info with someone else before acting on it because I've only heard it through rumor. But apparently the 2JZ compressor will work but you need to swap the compressor...
I could only find a vauge picture that swaq had posted, I hope he dosn't mind but I edited it to help you. Ignore the bright green circles, the wire your looking for is circled in light blue.
