I feel for ya man, I'm in the same spot with trying to build mine up. Any spare money I have goes to my baby. But I've got a grand or so set aside to rebuild my soon to be DD so I can get rid of the DD I have now (along with the car payments, insurance bills, and gas consumption that goes along...
That's a damn shame, I would love to have bought my supra in that condition, I'm so envious of you and your beautiful car... Clean up that engine bay some and you'll be set! Torque the head down before you do some mods to it though. Let's see the interior!!!
Put on a full hard pipe kit with a better Intercooler and put the boost around 10-12 and it should be a good race, but remember, you may have more HP than him, but that car's lighter and he may (probably) has more experience racing than you. Do not race from a stand still, do it from a roll. I'm...
If you're going to get a beater to drive around, go ahead and drain out the coolany and oil and flush it out well once done to get as much out as possible that way you can salvage shit from that engine if need be (I'm leaning more towards what John was talking about).
You can do that, but be very careful. Still to answer your original question, the studs are better hands down, but if you aren't shooting for huge power, you should be fine with the bolts ;).
:evil2: That question was begging for an anwer like that ;). I think it was kinda obvious about the sarcasm. Your method works good too though, for a time... Still don't think he's going to get 350 HP cheap and have it last...
^That will last too, Jdub is the man when it comes to ceramic coating shit (check out my profile for a list of parts I've had him do so far... Probably forgetting a few in it too).
Find a local 7M and build it. A ragged out "JDM" 7M is the same as a ragged out american 7M, those "compression" tests that are run on the JDM engines don't mean shit dude ;).
When I bought my supra the kid had put some ebay knockoffs on it, they were like 18x7.5's with an unknown offset. They were beat up all to hell, looked like someone drove the car in between two narrow curbs and played ping pong on the rims. They had brand new tires on them (still do pretty much)...
That sounds like some major ass rapage there... Shouldn't a Hose Techniques kit last longer than the stock rubber hoses anyways? And how much do they cost? Like a whole 80.00 bucks shipped?
Def. get it ceramic coated, that's going to be damn close to the hood of the car and could damaged/destroy the heat sheild padding attached to the underside of the hood, not to mention the paint too. I'd go the extra step and wrap it in header wrap too ;).
