Leave your O/D off, even though you prob won't get to that gear anyway unless you've got some serious power.
With my auto tranny, I have to shift from 1-2 about 600 rpm before redline, then 2-3 about 300 before redline. There is a bit of a lag between moving the shift lever and the tranny...

Perhaps that isn't the only place the air is leaking. There are many places you could be pulling in unmetered air under pressure.
Also, check your TPS to make sure it's adjusted properly and in good working order. (details in the TSRM) A bad or improperly adjusted TPS will also cause flat...
BIC DPs are not under $150 ... they are between $265 and $350 for the DDP. I'm sure they're definitely worth the asking price because I've heard nothing but rave reviews about them.
There are a few schools of thought here for the financially challenged.
